Many tests have shown that targeted banner ads carried at the bottom of the page can be virtually as powerful and effective as text ads.

The question that must always be asked by the webmaster is how relevant the banner ad is to the targeted audience at the site where it will be viewed. The more targeted and relevant it will be, the less it will be seen as an ad and therefore the more effective it will end up being.

Every ad campaign carried out online should be done with the site owner being clearly aware of the fact that folks generally hate to be advertised to online.
